Sudden Loss

March 20, 2017

Holy Crap. I have no words to describe the roller coaster I’ve been on recently. The SHU girls golf team was looking for their coach. They left phone numbers, and then went back to campus, hoping we’d let them know when he’d arrived at work.

We called and we called to no avail, and eventually found out that he had passed away. I will never forget that moment, my boss asking me to pick up so I was no longer on speaker phone in the office.

There were so many tears. I immediately went into autopilot. Answer the phone. Ring someone out. Help out in the arcade. Let everyone grieve. Keep going.

It wasn’t until later that I wept. Deep, soul wrenching tears you hope never to have to shed. This man who had encouraged me to keep after school, to never give up, and to laugh in the face of adversity was gone.

It really put life into  perspective. It can all end so quickly, so do the things you love and don’t waste any time.

Donnie, I want to live more like you. Thank you for your witness to living life to the fullest.

Same to you! I know he is smiling down on us, and making fun of us for not being able to party on the beach with him now 😉
