Dear Twenty- Something,
“It is Jesus that you seek when you dream of happiness; He is waiting for you when nothing else you find satisfies you; He is the beauty to which you are so attracted; it is He who provoked you with that thirst for fullness that will not let you settle for compromise; it is He who urges you to shed the masks of false life; it is He who reads in your heart your most genuine choices, the choices that others try to stifle.
It is Jesus who stirs in your the desire to do something great with your lives, the will to follow an ideal, the refusal to allow yourselves to be ground down by mediocrity, the courage to commit yourselves and society, making the world more human and more fraternal.” – JPII
You. Yes, You. Weary, tired and worn twenty something. You want the world and you mercilessly mock those who have what you do not. Just sit for a while. Rest your soul. That yearning you feel- for success, for travel, for greatness. For the dream girl, for the glory. You have big plans. Your life, like the tiles of a board game will twist and turn in ways you won’t expect.
It is Jesus that you seek dear one. Do not let yourself forget. The hour will come when you are faced with a decision too great for your weak heart and I beg you- choose LOVE.
Courage, oh down trodden heart. You are never alone. You may feel she will never come, or that he will never be good enough. In the darkest night of your soul you will feel lonely, but you are NOT alone.
Cry out to Him who has made you unwhole. He is the only one that will fill your cavernous heart. You may feel weak, but those tears will make you brave.
Do not settle. Why waste a beautiful life on anything but your absolute best? Make a list, but don’t get caught up on the small things. They may seem like big things right now and hell, you may NEED to accomplish them, but don’t let them distract you from your final goal- becoming your fullest self.
Oh proud young adult, do not be afraid to make mistakes. He sees your most genuine desires. You think you have it ll figured out- You Don’t. When you mess up royally, seek forgiveness. Sincerely apologize, and truly work to make it better.
Oh wandering soul, seek beauty in everything around you. Enjoy all things that point to a greater good, no matter how great or how small. It is the small moments of radiant joy that help you when the road gets dark.
Oh stranger, won’t you sit a while? Take off the mask you hide behind. It is only Him asking to see your tired eyes and your small half smile. What have you got to lose?
You. Yes, you. Weary and tired twenty something are destined for greatness. Don’t forget it or let your self be blinded by the seemingly mundane. In small acts, done with great love you will change the world.
